Sarah: An email list is one of your most important currencies as a blogger and it is never too early to start building your email list. You can think of it this way in the olden days of five or six years ago, your social media sites, which show every single one of your followers every single thing you posted. While we’ve already talked about how that isn’t the case anymore, the social media algorithms are actually trying to incentivize you to pay for reach of your own posts in order to reach the people who have already expressed an interest in your content in order to you know, earn money.
That’s a huge part of their model of how they work. That’s one of the reasons why an email list is so important. It’s a way to bypass social media algorithms and talk directly to the people who are interested in your content. You talk directly to your audience members by sending them emails and sometimes that’s where you can ask them to fill out a poll, or directly sell your products to your subscribers. It’s a wonderful way to build community, to get feedback, and also to create things like sales funnels. So an email list is absolutely critical. It’s never too early to start and even very small email lists can be incredibly productive. And of course a large email list is something that will actually open opportunities. So there are certain business opportunities, for example public speaking opportunities, interviews, book deals. Those types of opportunities are presented to people with large email lists. So start now and make list building a priority.
In this lesson, we’ll talk about both the technical considerations for managing your email list as well as the practical aspects of email list building and what to do with your list once you have it!
